Quick Stop-By

One of my favorite outings at home is going into Frydek-Mistek...particularly to the Frydek side (it is one city, but divided in two sections). The square is perched a little bit on a hill, and colorful houses line the cobblestone plaza.

This is also the location of our one and only gluten-free bakery, which is always a special treat. We couldn't dawdle much this time as we were only picking up goodies on the way somewhere, but it was comforting all the same.

It seems that this represents Czech well to me. It has all the charm that I associate with "Czech-ness", with little alleyways, a tall church steeple and my favorite antique bookstore. I'm glad we got to stop by Frydek one last time before heading back to Chicago! Some day I should probably actually take my camera over there, but since it's always a little stop, an iPhone will have to suffice!

Here are a few snapshots from the beginning of the trip of my favorite square on a sunny day. It was actually warm that day! Granted, these photos are nothing spectacular, but like I always say - it's these little things.

I've been thinking a lot about "home" lately, and have realized that Czech still feels like home. Maybe once/if I had my own apartment with friends off campus, Chicago would feel more like my own place. But when I go back to a dorm room, it's still a dorm room, not exactly "home". And that's ok! It's a different phase of life, and I'm thankful that it continually stretches me.

I think it's right to remind myself of this little quote. Dorothy is right!

  1. So glad we got to stop by, and that Haley was with us for it too! That was so fun. We'll make an afternoon of it in the summer and you can bring your camera, ok?! :)
